OBSTACLES LIMITING BEDOUIN WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION IN SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS IN NORTH SINAI

Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine the subjects’ level of ‎awareness of social, economic, psychological, administrative and cultural ‎obstacles which limit their roles in social development, as well as the ‎level of obstruction these obstacles impose. The suggested counter-‎measures for these obstacles and the subjects’ knowledge of them are ‎also being researched. The study has been conducted on a sample of 862 ‎female subject from the counties of North Sinai: El Arish, Bir El Abd, ‎Nekhel, and Al Hasna, the subjects were asked to fill out the ‎questionnaire through individual interviews to collect research data. ‎Data analysis was performed using duplication, percentiles, weighted ‎mean, and chi-squared test methods.‎ The most notable results were included an increase in the subjects’ ‎level of awareness of social, economic, psychological, administrative and ‎cultural obstacles with a minimum of 96.4% and a maximum of 99.5%, ‎moreover, the weighted mean of the level of obstruction ranged from ‎‎1.33 to 2.77. The main research recommendation to overcome these ‎obstacles included facilitating economic empowerment, fighting ‎illiteracy, and socially and financially incentivizing the female population.‎
