Abstract

The research aimed to identify the degree of rural youth’s knowledge of the concept of developing religious discourse and the degree of their knowledge of the importance of developing religious discourse, as well as their opinion on the extent to which there is a relationship between the lack of development of religious discourse and the emergence of extremist terrorist takfiri ideology. This research was conducted in a group of 200 randomly selected respondents using the personal interview questionnaire, and the data were collected on February and March 2022. The most important results of the research were that 44% of the respondents have a low degree of knowledge of the concept of developing religious discourse, 33% of them have a degree of knowledge of the importance of developing religious discourse, and 42.5% of the respondents see a strong relationship between the lack of development of religious discourse and the emergence of extremist terrorist takfiri ideology. 82% of the rural youth surveyed have positive attitudes towards developing religious discourse, 12% have negative attitudes, and 6% have neutral attitudes. The most important obstacle facing the development of religious discourse, from the point of view of the young respondents, needs a strong media that transmits it from mosques and preaching sites, and from Al-Azhar to the whole world, the cultural backwardness resulting from the increase in the number of ignorant, illiterate and fanatics who form groups of violence and extremism.
