Abstract

The results showed that the average share of an feddan of total costs amounted to about L.E. 26.5 thousand, which is equivalent to about L.E. 2.57 per kg of the summer cantaloupe crop during the 2021 production season. It was also found that the general average of the net yield of an feddan for the summer cantaloupe crop amounted to about L.E. 7.25 thousand, equivalent to about L.E. 0.71 per kg of crop. The average share of an feddan of return over variable costs was about L.E. 12.24 thousand, equivalent to about L.E. 1.19 per kg of crop, and the average share of an feddan of added value was about L.E. 19.35 thousand, equivalent to about L.E. 1.87 per kg of crop, at the level of the total sample farms during the 2021 production season. Regarding the measures of economic efficiency of the summer cantaloupe crop, the results of the study indicated that the general average of the return of the invested pound, the profit margin of the product, and the relative profitability, amounted to about 27.3%, 21.4%, 59.2%, with the same order, and that at the level of the total sample farms, during the 2021 production season. The research recommends expanding the cultivation of the cantaloupe crop indoors in North Sinai.
