Abstract

Sugar cane crop is used in the sugar industry in Egypt and in most countries of the world, its importance stems from sugar extracted from it, as sugar is a commodity consumed by different population. sugar consumption in Egypt has increased markedly while domestic production of this commodity is unable to cover demand for it, this led to an increase in the amount of the gap from sugar to about 947000 tons, 2020. Acre productivity, the world's total sugar cane crop production was about 58.6 million acres, 28 tons, 1649.8 million tons, during the period (2000-2020), The average area cultivated, the productivity of acres and the total production of the sugar cane crop in Egypt was about 324.4 thousand acres, 49.2 tons, 16112.7 thousand tons, during the same period, and the research found that Egypt's nominal protection factor for the sugar cane crop, Approximately 0.74, indicating a lack of a fair productive policy during the study period, The nominal protection factor for production supplies is also estimated at 0.95, indicating the relative increase in the State's support for such supplies. The value of the effective protection factor was also found to be about 0.72 less than the correct one, for the sugar cane crop, this indicates that there are implicit taxes incurred by producers, and the local resource cost factor is estimated at 0.27, which means a comparative advantage for Egypt in the production of the sugar cane crop. domestic production enables Egypt to compete in global markets.
