A DESCRIPTIVE SOCIAL STUDY OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND HEALTH CONDITIONS OF SINAI WOMEN'S IN EL-ARISH AND BIR AL-ABED DISTRICTS IN NORTH SINAI GOVERNORATE

Abstract

The research was mainly aimed to identify the most important factors which can develop Sinai women's through identifying socio-economic and health conditions of Sinai women's in El-Arish and Bir al-Abed districts in North Sinai Governorate, as well as to identify the vision of Sinai women's to the most important problems, and to determine the differences between them. In addition, the research provided some recommendations and suggestions for the promotion of socio-economic and health conditions of Sinai women's in El-Arish and Bir al-Abed districts. The research data was collected from 240 Sinai women's respondents (127 from El-Arish district and 113 from Bir al-Abed district) in North Sinai Governorate, with a questionnaire administrated through face-to-face interviews, after conducting pre-test. Some statistical methods were used to describe data such as, percentages, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion and T test methods to determine the significant difference between the two districts through using of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results of the research revealed that high percentage of respondents assured strengthening the economic potential of women and young people of both sexes, which will play a major role in promoting the community participation of women. The research was concluded with many recommendations, the most important is organization of training courses for the development of Sinai women's skills to overcome the lack of awareness of the health aspects and to increase opportunities for community participation, such courses as simple household income-generating activities, environmental projects and courses for public participation. Another recommendation is the need to enable the access of Sinai women's to educational opportunity, through ensuring equality with men, and reduce all obstacles to achieve it.
